Antonio Guarnieri was born on 20 March 1955 in Mendoza, Argentina, at the foot of the Aconcagua. His formation is rooted in the great South American academic tradition: he graduated as Professor of Fine Arts from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza, acquiring a solid technical and theoretical foundation that would accompany his entire creative evolution.
His artistic activity began officially in 1978 with his first exhibition at the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno in Mendoza. In the early 1980s his presence began to extend beyond Argentine borders: in 1981 he started presenting his work internationally, particularly in Europe, with exhibitions in Munich, Paris and Barcelona.
It was in August 1984 that he relocated permanently to Florence, where he lives and works to this day. When he arrived in Italy he brought with him not only his academic degree but an already well-established artistic and teaching career. He has taught at several private schools and at Polimoda, the European University of Fashion in Florence.
Born from the encounter between two cultures — Italian and Argentine — Guarnieri has developed a unique style that combines the European artistic tradition with South American passion. His practice embraces an extraordinarily broad horizon: paintings, sculptures, drawings, jewellery and interior design projects, alongside experience as a writer of poetry and art journalism, set designer and theatre director.
Among the most significant recognitions of his Florentine career is a silver work that entered the permanent collection of the Museo degli Argenti at Palazzo Pitti. In 2015, one of his aluminium sculptures — a second version of a crucifix — was donated to Pope Francis on the occasion of his apostolic visit to Florence.
His works are published in various art catalogues and magazines and are held in private collections across Europe and the Americas.
"Every work is an authentic expression of emotions and stories, created with traditional techniques and contemporary visions." — Antonio Guarnieri
